Engineered hardwood is prepared with multiple layers of wood stacked in a cross-grain configuration which decreases expanding and shrinking. Engineered hardwood provides an advantage over solid hardwood because of the ability to be installed in multiple houses weather they are constructed on a slab or crawl space. If you plan to install over concrete, you must use an engineered product to ensure structural integrity. Solid wood flooring or Engineered flooring may be used over plywood, existing wood floors.

Before deciding on hardwood or Engineered Wood consider these factors:

Engineered wood, also called composite wood, man-made wood, or manufactured board; includes a range of derivative wood products which are manufactured by binding or fixing the strands, particles, fibers, or veneers or boards of wood, together with adhesives, or other methods of fixation to form composite materials. These products are engineered to precise design specifications which are tested to meet national or international standards. Engineered wood products are used in a variety of applications, from home construction to commercial buildings to industrial products.

Refinishing hardwood floors, if your existing floor finish has been damaged with deep scratches, gouges or discoloration, DNY Floor Outlet offers full sand and refinishing service. This service includes sanding the floor entirely in order to remove all of your existing floor finish and expose bare wood. And is followed by multiple sanding’s with gradually finer sand paper to achieve a smooth surface. Lastly, after a thorough vacuuming and damp mopping with mineral spirits, two coats of polyurethane are applied on two successive days. After the second day when the floor is completely dry your new floor will be ready for light traffic and ready to be back in full service within a week.
